
Fake Certification Scandal: 60,000 Engine Parts Sold with Forged Documents
A UK-based individual, Jose Alejandro Zamora Yrala, has been sentenced after it was revealed that he sold more than 60,000 aircraft engine parts using forged certification documents.
The parts included components for the widely used CFM56 engine, which powers numerous Airbus and Boeing aircraft types worldwide.
According to prosecution documents, at least seven airlines were affected. Named carriers include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Ryanair. Other impacted operators reportedly include Ethiopian Airlines, easyJet, and Jet2.
The transactions were classified as fraud and fraudulent trading. Zamora received a prison sentence of four years and eight months.
The case has triggered extensive part inspections across the industry and led to costly checks and component replacements, highlighting ongoing vulnerabilities within the global aircraft parts supply chain.
