
Wreckage believed to belong to the ATR 42-500 aircraft with registration PK-THT, which lost contact in Indonesia, has been found on Mount Bulusaraung in South Sulawesi.
Indonesian search and rescue teams announced that pieces of wreckage from the ATR 42-500, which is thought to have crashed during its approach to Makassar’s Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, were located on Mount Bulusaraung. There were 11 people on board the aircraft. Officials providing information about the operations in the Pangkep region of South Sulawesi stated that the wreckage was identified in the morning hours.
Authorities said that various parts of the aircraft were found at different points on the mountain, with some debris areas located relatively close to each other. Among the recovered pieces was the tail section of the aircraft, which was found on the southern lower slope of the crash site.
Officials reported that the debris spread across Mount Bulusaraung is believed to belong to the ATR 42-500 aircraft that was on a fisheries surveillance mission and lost contact with air traffic control during a flight from Yogyakarta to Makassar. The incident is said to have occurred during the aircraft’s approach phase to Makassar’s Sultan Hasanuddin Airport.
Search and rescue and wreckage access operations are continuing in the mountainous region with challenging terrain, while teams are working to clarify all the details of the incident.
