Lufthansa has added the first aircraft featuring its special 100th anniversary livery to its fleet. The Boeing 787-9, named “Berlin” and registered D-ABPU, landed at Frankfurt International Airport following its delivery flight from Boeing’s facilities in Everett, Washington.

The aircraft features an iconic design that blends tradition with the future. A deep blue fuselage is highlighted by a giant white crane motif seamlessly integrated with the wings. Design details include a large “100” marking on the left side of the fuselage, “1926 | 2026” on the right side, and another “100” displayed on the underside of the aircraft.

Lufthansa CEO Jens Ritter said, “This aircraft tells a story: its blue fuselage, adorned with a giant white crane merging with the Dreamliner’s wings, powerfully reflects our century-old spirit.” Ritter emphasized that the moment carries special meaning for both himself and the Lufthansa family, adding, “The arrival of a new aircraft is always exciting, but the ‘Papa-Uniform’ aircraft symbolizing the 100th anniversary of the original ‘Luft Hansa’ represents both our traditions and our bright future.”

To commemorate its founding on January 6, 1926, and its first flight on April 6, 1926, Lufthansa is creating an anniversary fleet consisting of six aircraft. Led by the Boeing 787-9, the fleet will also include an Airbus A380, Airbus A350-1000, Airbus A350-900, Airbus A320, and a Boeing 747-8, all featuring special liveries. The completion of the anniversary fleet is planned for autumn 2026.
