A Muslim passenger traveling in the Business Class cabin of Singapore Airlines was mistakenly served a meal containing pork, despite having placed a special meal order in advance. According to The Online Citizen, the incident came to light when the passenger, suspicious of the appearance and smell of the meal served, checked its contents. Upon noticing the ingredient, which was not listed on the menu, the passenger immediately informed the cabin crew.
After the issue was identified, the cabin crew replaced the meal; however, it was reported that the incident caused discomfort and disappointment for the passenger during the flight. Serving a food item strictly prohibited by the passenger’s religious beliefs sparked backlash on social media.
Following an internal investigation, the airline found that the mistake occurred during the meal preparation and labeling process, likely due to an incorrect tray placement when loading meals from the kitchen onto the aircraft.
Singapore Airlines formally apologized for violating the passenger’s religious sensitivities. The company announced that, to prevent similar incidents in the future, it would review all food service procedures, provide additional training to kitchen and cabin crews, and tighten meal order verification steps.
