Passenger Causes Panic by Opening Emergency Exit on Plane in China
At Kunming Airport in southern China, a passenger caused panic by opening the emergency exit without permission immediately after the plane landed. The incident occurred on the morning of May 11 at 08:42 local time, on Dongbang Airlines flight #MU5828 from Changsha to Kunming. According to local media outlet Zimu News, after the plane landed, a male passenger opened the emergency exit door, activating the evacuation slide.
Thanks to the quick response of the cabin crew, the situation was brought under control without escalation, and passengers were safely evacuated from the aircraft about 20 minutes later. Eyewitnesses reported that the passenger opened the door simply to get some fresh air. The passenger was taken into custody by police, and authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Experts note that unauthorized activation of an aircraft’s emergency exit slide can result in damages ranging from 100,000 to 200,000 yuan (approximately 15,000 to 20,000 USD), depending on the aircraft type.
