The Greek Ministry of National Defense has signed an agreement to acquire KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft developed by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer. Under the government-to-government agreement with Portugal, Greece has placed a firm order for three KC-390 aircraft, with options for three additional units.
According to Embraer’s official announcement on November 2, 2026, the Hellenic Air Force is expected to receive its first KC-390 Millennium aircraft in 2027. The acquisition aims to enhance Greece’s military airlift and aerial refueling capabilities while strengthening operational interoperability with NATO allies.
With this agreement, Greece becomes the seventh European country to select the KC-390 Millennium, joining Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, and Sweden.
The KC-390 Millennium has a maximum payload capacity of 26 tonnes and a cruising speed of 470 knots. In addition to transporting military personnel and cargo, the aircraft can perform medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian missions. When equipped with the appropriate systems, it can also conduct air-to-air refueling operations.
