United Airlines Could Be Interested in Some of JetBlue’s Assets

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby has stated that the airline is not considering acquiring financially troubled JetBlue Airways. Kirby said United has no interest in taking over an unprofitable route network, adding that improving JetBlue’s profitability would be extremely difficult.
However, if JetBlue, which currently has a market capitalisation of approximately $990 million, enters bankruptcy proceedings, United Airlines could potentially be interested in acquiring some of its assets. JetBlue’s slot rights at New York’s JFK Airport, along with its Airbus A321neo and A220 aircraft, are seen as particularly attractive assets in a potential sale.
The two airlines already have a partnership known as “Blue Sky.” Under the agreement, United Airlines is expected to operate up to seven daily round-trip flights from JFK Airport starting in 2027.
However, no official decision has been announced regarding a potential JetBlue bankruptcy filing or the sale of its assets.
