
Ethiopian Airlines has signed an agreement with Boeing for 10 freighter aircraft as part of its plans to expand cargo operations. The order includes eight Boeing 777-8 Freighters and two Boeing 777 Freighters, making Ethiopian Airlines the first African carrier to order the 777-8F, the freighter variant of the Boeing 777X family.
The two Boeing 777 Freighters are scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, while deliveries of the eight 777-8 Freighters are expected between 2033 and 2035. Ethiopian Airlines will also have purchase rights for an additional eight 777-8Fs.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates a cargo fleet comprising 12 Boeing 777 Freighters, two Boeing 767 Freighters and four Boeing 737-800SFs. The airline serves more than 70 cargo destinations and aims to use the new aircraft to expand its freight operations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
