Uganda Airlines has placed an order for four Boeing 737-8 and four Boeing 787-9 aircraft as part of its fleet expansion and modernization strategy. The agreement marks the airline’s first-ever aircraft order with Boeing.
Uganda Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake said the order represents a significant milestone in the carrier’s growth plans and will support its ambition to establish Entebbe as a regional aviation hub.
The 737-8 aircraft are expected to operate on intra-African routes as well as services to the Middle East and India, while the 787-9s will be deployed on long-haul routes to the Middle East, Asia and Europe.
According to Boeing, the two aircraft types will reduce fuel consumption by 20 to 25 percent compared with the airplanes they will replace.
Uganda Airlines currently operates flights from its hub in Entebbe to 17 destinations across 13 countries.
