U.S. Issues New Security Alert for Middle East: Flight Cancellations and Airspace Closures Possible
The U.S. Embassy in Saudi Arabia issued a new security alert on October 18, 2026, urging American citizens in the Middle East to exercise caution amid rising regional tensions. The advisory warned of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions, encouraging travellers to prepare for possible changes to their plans.
The embassy highlighted attacks by Iran-backed Houthis targeting civilian airports and critical infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, warning that the conflict could rapidly spread across the wider region.
Travellers were advised to check their flight status directly with airlines and through official airport channels, and to prepare alternative travel arrangements before departure.
The advisory also warned that Iran and Iran-backed groups could target U.S. interests abroad, including American businesses and institutions.
