Turkish Airlines Hosts IATA World Safety and Operations Conference in Istanbul

As AirwayBuzz, we are on site as the Gold Media Partner of the World Safety and Operations Conference, organized by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and hosted by Turkish Airlines in Istanbul. Held from October 6-8, 2026, under the theme “Human-Centred Performance,” the conference focuses on the role of human factors in aviation safety and adapting to changing operational conditions.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Turkish Airlines CEO Ahmet Olmuştur said, “At Turkish Airlines, safety is at the heart of everything we do.” Olmuştur noted that technology investments create real value through employees’ knowledge, experience and sound judgment, adding that a strong safety culture is built on continuous learning, open communication and shared responsibility. He also stated that the exchange of experience and collaboration during the conference would contribute to the safe and resilient growth of the industry.
Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President for Operations, Safety and Security, said, “People are the foundation of aviation safety.” Noting that technology can strengthen foresight and decision-making, Careen emphasized that aviation professionals’ knowledge, skills, judgment and leadership are what turn these developments into safer operations.
The conference also features a CEO panel titled “Geopolitical Risk and Its Impact on Human Performance,” alongside sessions on human-centred safety practices, developing future aviation safety talent, and human needs in emergency response planning. Workshops and forums are also addressing airspace efficiency and resilience, data-driven safety analysis, emergency preparedness and turbulence.
