Polish President’s Plane Turns Back Over Spain Amid Political Crisis

Polish President Karol Nawrocki cut short his flight to Senegal and decided to return to Poland amid escalating political tensions in Warsaw. The Polish Air Force Boeing 737, which was flying from Warsaw to Dakar for an official visit, changed course near Malaga in southern Spain and headed back to Warsaw.
The sudden decision came amid a political crisis surrounding Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal. Disputes over the court’s leadership and the deployment of police officers to the site heightened tensions between President Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government.
President Nawrocki reportedly stated that his presence in Poland was necessary given the developing situation, prompting him to cancel the remainder of his journey. He had been scheduled to hold diplomatic meetings with Senegalese officials during the visit.
