MSC Air Cargo has placed an order for five Boeing 777-8 Freighters. The previously undisclosed order marks the company’s first commitment for the 777-8 Freighter.
Developed as the cargo variant of Boeing’s next-generation 777X family, the 777-8 Freighter is designed to offer high payload capacity, long range, and improved fuel efficiency. Boeing expects the aircraft to deliver the lowest fuel consumption, emissions, and operating costs per tonne among large freighters.
MSC Air Cargo CEO Jannie Davel said the order represents an important part of the company’s long-term growth strategy. He noted that the 777-8 Freighter’s efficiency, range, and payload capability would enable MSC Air Cargo to provide reliable service to customers for many years while supporting the company’s sustainability goals.
Brad McMullen, Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said the order would further strengthen MSC Air Cargo’s global network. He added that the 777-8 Freighter is expected to become the most efficient aircraft in its class and connect the carrier’s hubs with major cargo markets worldwide.
Boeing has received more than 80 orders for the 777-8 Freighter to date. MSC Air Cargo has become the third European-based cargo operator to order the aircraft.
