Laptop Catches Fire on American Airlines Flight

A passenger’s laptop caught fire aboard American Airlines flight AA2398 from Atlanta to Dallas/Fort Worth on August 21, around 30 minutes before landing. The Airbus A321-200, registered N197UW, was carrying 133 people. Cabin crew placed the device in a thermal containment bag and brought the fire under control.

In an initial report to air traffic control, the pilot said four to five people may have suffered burns to their hands. The aircraft landed safely at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, where one passenger received medical treatment at the scene and was later released.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the incident.
