Jet Blast from Departing Aircraft Seriously Injures Tourist
A 52-year-old Italian tourist was seriously injured on the Greek island of Skiathos after being knocked to the ground by the powerful jet blast of a departing aircraft while watching from Xanemos Beach. The woman struck her head on a hard surface during the August 10 incident and was diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage.
After receiving initial treatment at a medical centre on the island, she was transferred by helicopter to a hospital on the mainland later that evening due to the lack of required specialists. Warning signs and barriers are installed around Skiathos Airport, which is known for the close proximity of its runway to the beach and nearby road.
Another Italian tourist was seriously injured at the same location on August 13 after being knocked over by the jet blast of a departing aircraft, suffering a severe arm injury.
