The International Air Transport Association (IATA) condemned a series of hoax bomb threats targeting passenger flights across Europe. IATA said the threats had forced some flights to divert to alternate airports and disrupted services in recent days.
Among the flights affected was LOT Polish Airlines flight LO286 from London Heathrow to Warsaw on November 3. The flight was diverted to Warsaw Modlin Airport instead of its scheduled destination, Warsaw Chopin Airport.
IATA Senior Vice President Nick Careen said the aviation industry takes all threats seriously and urged authorities to identify the source of the hoax threats. He said aviation security measures would remain in place to protect passengers and the public.
