Flight Cancelled After Child Refuses to Wear Seat Belt

A Porter Airlines aircraft preparing to operate a flight from Victoria to Toronto returned to the terminal after a young child refused to remain seated and wear a seat belt.

The incident began while the aircraft was taxiing for departure, when the cabin crew noticed the child standing on the seat. Despite efforts by both the cabin crew and the parent, the child continued to refuse to sit down and fasten the seat belt, prompting the flight crew to abandon the departure.

By the time the child and accompanying passenger were removed from the aircraft with their baggage, the flight plan was revised and the necessary procedures were completed, it was past 12:30 a.m. As the runway at Victoria International Airport was closed for overnight operations, flight #PD444 was cancelled.

Passengers spent the night in Victoria before departing for Toronto on a replacement flight the following day.
