Brazilian Pilot Continues Round-the-World Journey in Amateur-Built Aircraft

Brazilian pilot Alexandre Frota, 53, is continuing his solo round-the-world flight in an amateur-built Van’s RV-10 single-engine aircraft. Having departed from his hometown of Fortaleza around 120 days ago, Frota has now reached Anadyr in Russia’s Far East, marking another major milestone in his journey.

For the approximately 74,000-kilometre expedition, Frota extensively modified his aircraft by replacing the rear seats with additional fuel tanks. The aircraft is also equipped with advanced navigation systems, a whole-aircraft parachute system and an immersion suit for emergency water landings.

Frota’s route includes the Caribbean, the United States, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Russia. His next destination is Alaska, after which he plans to return to Brazil via North America to complete his round-the-world flight.
