Bankrupt Spirit’s Airbus Aircrafts Parked in the Arizona Desert

Following the suspension of operations by U.S. low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines, the airline’s yellow-liveried Airbus aircraft were spotted at Phoenix Goodyear Airport in Arizona.

After entering bankruptcy proceedings and ending flight operations, Spirit received court approval for the liquidation of its remaining assets. As part of the process, the airline’s aircraft, engines, spare parts and slot rights are among the assets expected to be converted into cash for creditors.

Images taken over Phoenix Goodyear Airport show Spirit’s distinctive yellow Airbus aircraft lined up across apron and storage areas. More than 40 leased aircraft from the airline’s fleet are reported to be at the maintenance and storage facility in Goodyear.

The aircraft were ferried to storage sites in Arizona from different airports after the airline ceased operations. Arizona’s dry desert climate makes the region a preferred location for long-term aircraft storage and preservation.
