Azerbaijan’s national carrier, Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), has recorded significant growth in passenger traffic across Central Asia as it continues to expand its network in the region.
Over the past three months, the airline has launched three new routes to the Kazakh cities of Shymkent, Atyrau and Aktobe. With these additions, AZAL now operates flights from Baku to 10 cities across four Central Asian countries. Kazakhstan represents the airline’s largest network in the region, followed by Uzbekistan, while AZAL also serves destinations in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
Since the beginning of 2026, AZAL has carried approximately 400,000 passengers on its Central Asian routes, representing a 35% increase compared with the same period last year.
Passengers travelling from Central Asia are also using Baku as a connecting point for international destinations, with the growing traffic supporting the city’s position as a regional transfer hub.
