The first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner set to join the fleet of Kazakhstan’s flag carrier Air Astana has begun test flights in the United States. The aircraft, registered EI-KZA, is undergoing pre-delivery testing at Boeing’s Charleston facility.

Air Astana plans to add three Boeing 787-9s to its fleet during 2026–2027. The airline has also reached an agreement for 15 additional 787-9s, comprising five firm orders, five options and five purchase rights. With deliveries of these aircraft planned between 2032 and 2035, Air Astana’s total 787-9 program is expected to reach 18 aircraft.

With its Dreamliner fleet, Air Astana aims to increase capacity from Central Asia and the Caucasus to Asia, Europe and other long-haul markets in the coming years.
