Around 10,000 Aircraft Are Carrying 1.2 Million People Right Now

At any given moment, around 10,000 commercial aircraft are in the skies around the world. Together, they are carrying an estimated 1.2 million passengers. During the busiest hours of the day, that number can rise to as many as 15,000 aircraft and nearly 2 million people.
More than 100,000 commercial flights operate every day. Millions of passengers and thousands of tons of cargo are transported safely through the coordinated efforts of air traffic controllers, pilots, cabin crews, ground handling teams, and airline operations centers.
Powered by this second-by-second global coordination, aviation remains one of the world’s largest and most complex transportation networks.
