Swiss International Air Lines has decided to permanently retire and dismantle two Airbus A220-100 aircraft from its fleet to use them for spare parts.
The Airbus A220-100 aircraft registered HB-JBD and HB-JBC will be used as a source of engines and spare parts for Swiss’ Airbus A220-300 fleet. Both aircraft had been stored in Toulouse since January and will not return to service.
In a statement, Swiss said, “By dismantling these two aircraft, we are securing critical components for our own operations.”
The airline also announced that three of the remaining seven Airbus A220-100 aircraft are currently stored at Toulouse Francazal Airport. Swiss plans to gradually remove the remaining A220-100 fleet from service and park the aircraft for at least 18 months.
As part of the decision, Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engines from the A220-100 aircraft will be transferred to the airline’s 145-seat Airbus A220-300 fleet, which offers higher capacity and better operational efficiency.
