ICAO Updates Rules on Power Bank Usage

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has updated its regulations on portable batteries to enhance flight safety, aiming to reduce fire risks associated with lithium batteries.
➡️ Under the new rules, power banks and similar portable batteries will continue to be allowed only in carry-on baggage. However, additional restrictions have been introduced regarding their use and storage during flights. Devices left unattended in overhead bins and damaged batteries are highlighted as key risk factors.
➡️ ICAO emphasized that these updates were developed in coordination with airlines and aviation authorities, taking into account the recent increase in battery-related incidents. The revised rules are expected to be implemented gradually to strengthen international standards and improve overall flight safety.
