The new international airport in Ilulissat, Greenland, officially opened on October 29, 2026. Air Greenland’s Airbus A330-800neo, arriving from Copenhagen, became the first widebody aircraft to land on the airport’s new 2,200-meter runway.
Previously limited to a 845-meter runway, Ilulissat could not accommodate large passenger aircraft. The new airport enables direct international flights, improving accessibility to Greenland’s third-largest city and supporting tourism development.
Scheduled Copenhagen–Ilulissat flights will begin on November 2, operated by Jettime using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Air Greenland plans to take over the route with its new Airbus A320neo in April 2027.
Part of Greenland’s broader aviation infrastructure development program, Ilulissat Airport is the country’s third new airport project, following Nuuk and Qaqortoq. The airport is expected to gradually reach full operational capacity by summer 2027.
