Lufthansa to Add Two Boeing 787-9s Originally Built for LOT to Its Fleet

Lufthansa is preparing to add two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to its fleet that were originally built for LOT Polish Airlines but never taken up by the Polish carrier. Lufthansa confirmed that the aircraft are part of an earlier agreement with Boeing covering a total of seven 787-9s.

The aircraft were built about six years ago and spent a long time in storage. They are scheduled to enter service with Lufthansa under the registrations D-ABQF and D-ABQG. They will reportedly be fitted with Lufthansa’s new Allegris cabin and seat 287 passengers: 28 in Business, 28 in Premium Economy and 231 in Economy.

In recent years, Lufthansa has been growing its 787-9 fleet to bolster its long-haul capacity, largely because of delays in the Boeing 777X program.
