👉🏻Australia-based Virgin Australia announced that maintenance costs have increased due to delays in expected aircraft deliveries from Boeing. As a result, the airline has extended some leases and continued operating older aircraft.
👉🏻The carrier plans to receive 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in the next financial year. In addition, four new Embraer E190s will join the fleet to support regional and charter operations in Western Australia. With these deliveries, six leased 737-800s are expected to leave the fleet.
👉🏻Virgin Australia is also implementing a fuel hedging program to reduce costs, and anticipates lower operating expenses once the new generation aircraft are introduced.
