Virgin Australia has announced that it has extended its “Pets in Cabin” trial program, which launched in October 2025, until June 30, 2026, following strong demand and positive feedback. The program, originally scheduled to conclude at the end of January 2026, reportedly received higher-than-expected bookings.
The initiative is currently available on Melbourne–Gold Coast and Melbourne–Sunshine Coast routes. The airline plans to expand the service to additional domestic routes in the coming months. During the 2025 Christmas period alone, more than 300 cats and dogs traveled in the cabin on these flights.
In addition, Virgin Australia announced that as of January 31, 2026, cats will be accepted on all Pets in Cabin flights. While cats were previously permitted only on limited routes, the scope has now been expanded. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can access the service on eligible flights for 18,600 points one-way.
