U.S.-based aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced that Vietnam’s newly established carrier Sun PhuQuoc Airways has placed an order for up to 40 787 Dreamliner aircraft. According to the statement, the order will form the backbone of the airline’s future widebody fleet.
The agreement covers the 787-9 variant, which will be deployed on operations based at Phu Quoc International Airport in Vietnam. The airline plans to utilize the aircraft for long-haul services connecting key destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America.
Officials noted that this transaction represents the largest widebody aircraft order from Boeing in Vietnam’s aviation history. The signing ceremony was attended by Vietnamese and U.S. government representatives, along with senior executives from both companies.
According to Boeing data, the 787 Dreamliner family has helped launch more than 535 new nonstop routes worldwide since entering service in 2011 and has carried over 1.2 billion passengers globally.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways intends to operate under a “resort aviation” model focused on Vietnam’s largest island, Phu Quoc. The carrier aims to expand its fleet to 100 aircraft by 2030.
