Vietnam Airlines Orders 50 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft

Vietnam Airlines has signed an agreement with Boeing for 50 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as part of its fleet modernization and growth strategy. The deal marks the carrier’s first order from Boeing’s narrow-body family and aims to meet rising domestic and regional passenger demand.

The 737-8, which offers a seating capacity of up to 200 passengers and a range of approximately 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km), will enable Vietnam Airlines to expand its short- and medium-haul network. The next-generation aircraft are expected to deliver 20–25% fuel savings compared to the models they will replace, reducing operational costs and improving overall efficiency.

The airline currently operates 17 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on long-haul routes between Vietnam and Europe. With the addition of the 737 MAX order, Vietnam Airlines plans to grow its narrow- and wide-body Boeing fleet in an integrated manner, strengthen regional connectivity, and support its goal of becoming a five-star international airline by 2030.
