A Bombardier CRJ700 passenger aircraft operated by American Airlines collided midair with a US Army Sikorsky H-60 Black Hawk military helicopter while approaching Washington Reagan Airport.
In the legal proceedings related to the accident, the US government has officially acknowledged that there was safety-related negligence involved in the incident.
Court filings stated that a lack of coordination between civil air traffic services and military units, as well as the insufficient implementation of procedures regarding airspace usage, contributed to the accident.
➡️ Authorities emphasized that the admission of negligence does not negate the results of the technical investigation, adding that examinations are ongoing to clarify all aspects of the accident.
➡️ With the publication of the final technical report, safety operating rules concerning the joint use of the same airspace by civil and military air traffic are expected to be reassessed.
