Radar System Reportedly Damaged at U.S. Embassy in Baghdad After Iranian Strike
Images circulating on social media appear to show damage to a radar system located on the roof of the U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad following a reported Iranian strike.
According to open-source analysts, the damaged equipment is believed to be a Saab Giraffe-1X 3D multi-mission surveillance radar. The system is typically used in conjunction with Counter-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM) defense systems designed to detect and track short-range threats such as rockets, artillery shells, and mortars.
Preliminary reports suggest the strike may have been carried out using a one-way attack drone or a rocket. Photographs from the scene appear to show burn marks and structural damage around the radar installation on the embassy complex.
