
Near Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in Colorado, two small aircraft collided in mid-air during landing. One person was killed and three others were injured in the accident.
According to a statement by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300 collided around 10:40 a.m. local time on Sunday while approaching the airport. After the collision, one of the planes caught fire while the other sustained severe damage.
The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office said:“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual who lost their life in this tragic incident. We thank all the agencies that responded to the scene and the citizens who supported firefighting efforts.”
Thick black smoke rising from the airport area after the crash was also captured by control tower cameras. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collision.
