Training Aircraft Crashes in İzmir

A training aircraft crashed in the Torbalı district of İzmir this morning, prompting emergency teams to rush to the scene.
The aircraft went down in a cornfield in Subaşı neighborhood during the early hours. Health and fire crews were immediately dispatched, and rescue operations were launched.
It was later confirmed that the aircraft, which had taken off from Selçuk Airport, crashed in Kırbaş neighborhood of Torbalı. The pilot trainee on board tragically lost their life in the accident.
Statement from the Governor’s OfficeThe İzmir Governor’s Office released a written statement regarding the crash: “A training aircraft belonging to the Turkish Aeronautical Association (THK), which departed from Selçuk Airport, was involved in an accident in Kırbaş, Torbalı district, on the morning of September 3, 2025. Our teams quickly arrived at the scene, and initial findings confirmed that pilot trainee Berfu Hatipoğlu, born in 1994, has lost her life. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
