Syrian Air is taking significant steps to re-establish air connectivity with Turkey. In a recent statement, the airline’s General Manager announced that preparations are underway to launch scheduled flights to both Istanbul and Cairo. The airline also revealed plans to expand its fleet and resume European operations.
“Flights to Istanbul and Tripoli Starting Soon”
The General Manager emphasized that Istanbul is among Syrian Air’s short-term priorities: “We will very soon begin flights from Syria to Istanbul. Similarly, the Tripoli (Libya) route will also become active,” he said.
Cairo Flights Operationally Ready
While the airline is operationally prepared to restart flights to Cairo, external conditions are currently causing delays. “We are fully ready for the Cairo route, but due to some external factors, we haven’t been able to launch the flights yet. Once conditions permit, services will begin,” the statement noted.
Targeting a Return to Europe Through Partnerships
On returning to European airspace, the General Manager clarified that the challenge is not technical but political and bureaucratic. “Flights to Europe are delayed due to protocol and documentation processes. However, we are working on alternative partnerships to reactivate this route,” he stated.
Fleet Expansion Underway, Three Aircraft Now Active
Syrian Air is also rebuilding its fleet. Two aircraft that had been out of service for maintenance have returned to operation, and a third aircraft has joined the fleet. The airline aims to further expand its fleet within the next 3 to 5 months.
