SpiceJet Partners with Natilus for Blended Wing Body (BWB) Aircraft

India-based low-cost carrier SpiceJet has entered into a strategic partnership with Natilus, a company developing next-generation aircraft featuring a blended wing body (BWB) design.

Under the agreement, SpiceJet will support the certification process in India for Natilus’s BWB passenger aircraft known as HORIZON. Following the completion of certification, the airline has committed to purchasing 100 HORIZON aircraft.

With a capacity of 240 passengers, the HORIZON aims to deliver approximately 30% lower fuel costs, 50% lower carbon emissions, and a 50% reduction in total operating costs compared to conventional aircraft. Natilus plans for the HORIZON to enter service in the early 2030s, while the company’s cargo-focused KONA model is expected to begin operations by 2030.

SpiceJet Chairman and CEO Ajay Singh stated that the company is pleased with the collaboration with Natilus in line with its goals of supporting innovation and sustainability in aviation.

Aleksey Matyushev, CEO of US-based Natilus, emphasized that SpiceJet’s openness to technological innovation makes it an ideal customer for the HORIZON. He added that through Natilus India, the company aims to develop partnerships with leading Indian OEMs and bring next-generation aircraft to operators such as SpiceJet.
