Silk Way West Takes Delivery of Third Boeing 777F

Azerbaijan-based cargo carrier Silk Way West Airlines has taken delivery of its third Boeing 777F aircraft. Registered as VP-BAA, the freighter was handed over on August 29 at Boeing’s facilities in Everett, USA, before being flown to Baku.
Company president Wolfgang Meier stated, “The addition of our third Boeing 777F marks an important step in our long-term growth strategy.”
Silk Way West had previously received its first two Boeing 777F aircraft in 2023. These new-generation twin-engine freighters are gradually set to replace the airline’s current four-engine fleet, which consists of five Boeing 747-8F and seven Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
The carrier has a total of 10 Boeing 777s on order. The initial order placed in 2021 covered five 777Fs, followed in 2022 by two Boeing 777-8Fs and two options. Deliveries of both types are planned by 2030, alongside the addition of two Airbus A350F freighters.
Based in Baku, Silk Way West handles more than 500,000 tons of cargo annually. The group also operates Ilyushin Il-76 cargo aircraft.
