Saudia Group has announced an order for 10 Airbus A330-900 aircraft for its low-cost subsidiary, flyadeal. This marks flyadeal’s first widebody aircraft order and paves the way for the airline to begin long-haul operations.
While flyadeal has not yet finalized the routes for these aircraft, it plans to target the high-demand Southeast Asia market. Entering the long-haul segment is often seen as a risky move for low-cost carriers due to cost and operational challenges, but flyadeal is moving forward with the expansion.
“We’re quite confident it’ll be Southeast Asia – Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, or the Philippines,” said flyadeal CEO Steven Greenway.
