Royal Air Maroc Set to Renew Fleet with 200 New Aircraft

Morocco’s flag carrier, Royal Air Maroc, is preparing for a major fleet renewal as it holds talks with all three major aircraft manufacturers for an order of up to 200 aircraft. According to Reuters, the airline aims to complete this ambitious modernization plan by 2037.

Royal Air Maroc currently operates a fleet of 63 aircraft, including 11 leased planes. The fleet is predominantly composed of Boeing aircraft, with 47 Boeing jets and 4 leased Airbus aircraft in operation.

The planned order may be distributed among the manufacturers as follows:

Boeing: 74 aircraft in total, including 24 long-haul 787 Dreamliners and 50 medium-haul 737s

Airbus: 20 A220 aircraft with a capacity of 150 passengers

Embraer: E2 series regional jets intended for domestic routes

The Brazilian manufacturer Embraer had previously delivered four E190s to Royal Air Maroc and is now proposing its modernized E2 family for the next phase.

If realized, this plan would more than triple the size of Royal Air Maroc’s fleet—from 63 to 200 aircraft. The expansion is also expected to strengthen Casablanca Airport’s position as a key aviation hub in Africa.
