Qanot Sharq Becomes Central Asia’s First Airbus A321XLR Operator

Uzbekistan-based Qanot Sharq has become the first airline in Central Asia to operate Airbus’s new-generation long-range narrowbody aircraft, the A321XLR, after adding the type to its fleet. Airbus confirmed that the first of four A321XLR aircraft has been delivered to the airline under a long-term leasing agreement with Air Lease Corporation (ALC).

Powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines, the aircraft features a two-class cabin configuration with a total of 190 seats, including 16 full-flat business class seats and 174 economy class seats. Qanot Sharq stated that it plans to use its A321XLR fleet to expand its international network toward key markets in Asia. Planned routes include Sanya, Busan, and New York via Budapest.

Qanot Sharq Owner Nosir Abdugafarov emphasized that the A321XLR’s range and efficiency advantages will enable the launch of new nonstop routes from Uzbekistan, while increasing passenger comfort and keeping operating costs at competitive levels. Air Lease also expressed its satisfaction in introducing the A321XLR into service in Asia for the first time, noting that Qanot Sharq’s strategic location will allow the aircraft’s potential to be utilized to the fullest.
