Pilgrims Allegedly Fell into the Red Sea

Claims circulating on social media that a Mauritania Airlines plane carrying pilgrims crashed into the Red Sea have caused widespread panic. It was alleged that 200 pilgrims lost their lives in the incident.

However, it was later revealed that these claims spread after images of an Airbus A330 aircraft, previously sunk in the Gulf of Saros in 2019 at the İbrice Port in Edirne to promote diving tourism, were misrepresented as footage of a real crash.

Mauritania Airlines firmly denied the allegations that a plane carrying pilgrims had crashed into the Red Sea. The airline stated that they would take legal action against such baseless claims.
