Passenger Passes Away Aboard Turkish Airlines’ Chicago-Istanbul Flight | Exclusive News
A sad event occurred on Turkish Airlines’ #TK6 flight from Chicago to Istanbul on May 27. A terminally ill passenger with stage 4 cancer passed away during the flight onboard the Boeing 777 aircraft registered TC-LJC.
According to available information, the elderly man, a Somali-born U.S. citizen, had wished to return to his homeland due to his declining health. Traveling with his two daughters, he was reportedly in a wheelchair and boarded the flight with a medical report. Turkish Airlines staff reportedly showed special care and checked his condition during boarding.
The passenger passed away in his sleep during the overnight flight. His daughters noticed his condition and informed the cabin crew. Doctors onboard examined him and confirmed his passing. The flight continued to Istanbul as scheduled without any diversion. The cabin crew moved the deceased and his daughters to the Business Class section.
Upon arrival in Istanbul, police and medical teams boarded the aircraft to complete the necessary formalities. After official documentation was completed, the body was taken off the aircraft, and passengers were allowed to disembark.
The decision on whether the deceased will be transported to Somalia or returned to the United States will be made by the family in coordination with the relevant authorities.
