Despite putting financially troubled Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) up for sale as part of a privatization initiative, the Pakistani government has so far failed to attract any private sector buyers.
According to information provided by the government to the Senate, the requirement for a new owner to assume debts totaling 33 billion Pakistani rupees has been removed.
In addition, liabilities amounting to 26 billion rupees owed to the Federal Board of Revenue, along with 7 billion rupees in aviation license fees and mandatory charges, have been waived. Currently, the only condition for potential buyers is the submission of a 2 billion rupee security deposit.
➡️ Despite these concessions, no tangible progress has been made in the privatization process. Meanwhile, allegations regarding poor maintenance conditions of some aircraft have surfaced, with claims that rodent and bird nests were found inside certain planes, drawing public attention.
