NTSB Releases Preliminary Report on Philadelphia Plane Crash

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its preliminary report on the Learjet 55 air ambulance crash that occurred on January 31 in Philadelphia, resulting in the deaths of seven people. The report states that the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) was not functioning and had likely not recorded any audio for several years. Additionally, the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) is under investigation.
It was noted that the flight crew was in communication with air traffic control but did not issue a distress call. The crash resulted in a large debris field, and the final report is expected to be released in approximately one year. The accident claimed the lives of all six people on board the aircraft, as well as one person on the ground, while 24 others sustained injuries.
