National Strike in Greece on October 1, Air Traffic to Be Disrupted

As part of a nationwide strike planned for October 1, 2025, in Greece, air traffic control staff will also walk off the job. Airlines have already begun warning passengers about possible disruptions.

The strike is being organized by the country’s largest unions, GSEE and ADEDY, in response to the government’s plan to introduce a 13-hour workday. The unions are also demanding pay increases for their members.

The 24-hour strike will cause significant disruptions across schools, hospitals, public services, and transportation.

Statements from Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air

On September 26, Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air announced that air traffic controllers would take part in the strike, meaning flights on October 1 would be affected. In their statement, the two airlines noted: “According to the NOTAM issued by the Civil Aviation Authority, the participation of air traffic controllers in the strike may be postponed depending on the decision of the competent court. Until a decision is issued, there will be no changes to Aegean and Olympic Air flights.”

Jet2 and Other Airlines Also Affected

UK-based Jet2 Airways also notified its passengers, explaining that the strike will extend beyond air traffic to include local taxi and ferry services. While the airline confirmed that flights are expected to operate as scheduled, passengers were urged to arrive at the airport on time.

Other carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet are also expected to be affected by the strike.
