Lufthansa Welcomes Its First Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in Frankfurt

As part of its Frankfurt-based fleet modernization, Lufthansa has taken delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring the Allegris cabin concept. The aircraft, arriving from Seattle, landed today at Frankfurt Airport. Starting mid-October, the new aircraft will be deployed on regular flights between Frankfurt and Toronto. Lufthansa plans to bring nine more 787-9s to Frankfurt by the end of the year.

Modernization and Sustainability

The company’s CEO, Jens Ritter, said:“We are especially pleased to now be able to offer our guests the premium Allegris experience here in Frankfurt. With this delivery, the modernization of our long-haul fleet at our largest hub is gaining momentum. This will allow us to operate much quieter, fuel-efficient aircraft equipped with the latest technology for our passengers.”

The new Boeing 787-9 consumes on average only 2.5 liters of kerosene per passenger per 100 kilometers, about 25% less than previous models. Lufthansa has ordered a total of 29 Boeing 787-9s. With 78 long-haul aircraft equipped with Allegris to join the fleet in the coming years, the airline will complete the largest fleet renewal in its history.

The Allegris Cabin Experience

The new Dreamliner offers passengers a more comfortable travel experience. Lufthansa Business Class features private suites for each passenger, separated by walls up to chest height, with 27-inch screens, personal wardrobes, and mini-bars. Premium Economy and Economy Class options are also available for booking. Once the certification process for the Allegris Business Class seats on the Boeing Dreamliner is complete, these seats will also be offered for sale.

Lufthansa Allegris has been in service on Munich-based long-haul flights since the summer of 2024. Since then, more than half a million passengers have enjoyed this new travel experience.
