A Lufthansa Airbus A320neo passenger aircraft returned to London Heathrow Airport shortly after takeoff due to an engine fault warning.
The aircraft operating flight LH2473 to Munich departed Heathrow on Wednesday with a delay compared to its scheduled departure time. Shortly after takeoff, after climbing to around 14,000 feet, the crew stopped the climb and decided to return to the airport after squawking the emergency code Squawk 7700.
Following a fire warning from the left engine, the flight crew shut down the engine and made a precautionary return. About 25 minutes later, the aircraft landed safely back at Heathrow. After landing, the aircraft was stopped on a parallel taxiway and externally inspected by emergency crews, then towed to the apron accompanied by fire trucks.
Lufthansa stated that the return was due to a technical reason and that the landing was completed normally, adding that no injuries occurred in the incident.
