Legendary Boeing 747 Hotel in Sweden Permanently Shuts Down

The Jumbo Stay hotel, located near Stockholm Arlanda Airport and built inside a converted Boeing 747-200, is permanently closing its doors. Opened in 2009, the unique accommodation project featured 33 rooms and became a favorite among aviation enthusiasts. However, the company behind the hotel has gone bankrupt, casting uncertainty over its future. Swedavia, the state-owned airport operator, has refused to lease the land to a new operator.

A combination of prolonged pandemic-related closures, growing competition from budget hotels, and a ban on advertising within airport grounds led to a significant decline in revenue. These challenges ultimately made the business unsustainable.

Jumbo Stay officially ceased operations on March 17, 2025, with around 800 reservations canceled. The aircraft housing the hotel will most likely be dismantled for scrap, marking the end of a 16-year journey for one of aviation lovers’ most iconic destinations.
