K9 Buckie Breaks Record in Forbidden Fruit Operation in Seattle

Buckie, a detector dog serving with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, achieved a remarkable success during year-end agricultural safety inspections at the Seattle port of entry. During the “12 Days of Christmas” screenings, Buckie quickly uncovered a large number of undeclared agricultural products brought from various countries.

Among the detected items were 52 kumquats, 28 passion fruits, 27 oranges, 14 kiwis, 8 limes, 7 pomegranates, 5 guavas, 3 dates, 1 apple, and a steak sandwich brought from Azerbaijan. These products were denied entry due to the risk of harmful organisms and diseases.

CBP teams stated that Buckie’s outstanding performance has made a significant contribution to efforts to protect the United States’ agricultural safety.
