Jet Fuel Supply Shortage at Hamburg Airport

Hamburg Airport announced on Thursday that airlines and fuel suppliers are unable to provide refueling as usual, citing an “unforeseen jet fuel supply shortage” originating from a refinery in Heide.
The airport operator stated that flight operations are currently “stable,” but delays or changes in flight schedules may be possible in the coming days. No further details have yet been provided regarding the cause or scope of the supply shortage, though officials emphasized that there are no signs of sabotage or terrorist activity.
In its statement, Hamburg Airport GmbH stressed that refueling is the responsibility of the airlines and their contracted service providers, not the airport itself. The airport only provides storage facilities and is also “an affected party” in the situation. Airlines and suppliers are said to be working intensively to find a solution.
